Viking Norse Mythology 9 stud amulet pendant.
The number nine features greatly in Viking Norse Mythology, Odin tethered Himself tothe world tree of life
Yggdrasill also known as Mimamedir for nine Days and nine Nightsto gather wisdom.
Yggdrsill had nine branches representing the nine realms Asgard, Midgard and Niflheim to name a few.
The elaborate ship burialdiscovered at Osberg Norway contained a wooden cart with a panel carved with nine cat like creatures which pulled the cart belonging to the Goddess Freyja.
The Norse God Aegir had nine Daughters, the number nine associated with the sacral/rituals at Uppsala.
Nine is associated with textiles and weaving the Valkyries, the number nine represents so much more in Norse Mythology, much more that can be included here.
this pendant is my re creation of a find from Hersnap Denmark, there are similar types found at Stange Norway etc.
As a pendant it is very pleasing to the eye however it is also a fantastic visual storytelling
piece for the re enactor, a visual gateway to Norse beliefs and culture.
The pendant is lost wax cast bronze and measures approximately 2.4cm in diameter excluding suspension loop and approximately 0.35cm thickness weighing approximately 7 grams
and a generous length of waxed cotton cord is included.
My Personal thanks to Leszek Gardella www.miniatureswithnine studs a truly informative journal
highlighting the story behind the nine!
