This masque is my interpretation of a German myth of a river siren who inhabits a rock on the River Rhine known as “The Lorelie”.
Covered in a slightly-iridescent blue material etched with a fish scale pattern with each scale outlined with the hand-application of a fine silver cord, the effect of water has been achieved with a very heavy hand-blitzing of glass rhinestones in four shades of blue.
The impression of river foam has been created with an application of pearl beading, tiny blue shells and Swarovski elements to a delicate silver lace edging along the veil. Pearl rope draping, tiny starfish and impressionistic fish shapes provided a finishing touch.
Surface waves and ripples form “Lorelie’s” headdress which has been achieved with a very heavy application of pearl beads, Swarovski pearls, rhinestones and deconstructed vintage jewellery – including tiny silver seahorses.
“Lorelie” is a one-off creation which has been signed, dated and catalogued for artistic security preservation of authenticity.
